Pioneering the Future of Concrete: AI Meets Engineering

I am thrilled to share that our cutting-edge research on concrete and machine learning was presented at the esteemed ASCE Engineering Mechanics Institute Conference (EMI 2023) held at Georgia Tech on Friday, June 9th, 2023!

My PhD advisor, Dr. Yi Bao, led the presentation of our work titled "Artificial language and machine learning-integrated approach for understanding and designing concrete with consideration of physiochemical properties". Our presentation was part of the Mini-Symposium “MS308: Machine Learning in Mechanics, Materials, and Structures," organized by a group of distinguished experts including Christos Athanasiou, Miguel Bessa, Kai Guo, Vikas Srivastava, and Jan Fuhg.

Our research integrates artificial language models with machine learning algorithms to delve into the physiochemical properties of concrete. This innovative approach has groundbreaking potential to transform how we predict material properties and unravel the complexities of chemical reactions in concrete. As a result, this can lead to more sustainable and efficient practices in construction.

This presentation is based on our recent paper:

Mahjoubi, S., Barhemat, R., Meng, W., & Bao, Y. (2023). Deep learning from physicochemical information of concrete with an artificial language for property prediction and reaction discovery. Resources, Conservation and Recycling, 190, 106870. Read the full paper

I am truly honored to have contributed to this work, and I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. Yi Bao and my co-authors Rojyar Barhemat and Dr. Weina Meng for their collaboration.

For those who are interested, here is the full schedule of the ASCE EMI 2023 Conference.

Stay tuned for more updates on our ongoing research!
